Youth & Children's Ministry Coordinator

Scope & Purpose:
The Youth & Children's Ministry Coordinator will provide Organization and Leadership to the Church's educational ministries with children, youth and their families, in order that the Church may live out its Youth & Children's Ministry Vision:

“To Develop and maintain a healthy Christian environment for children and youth fellowship, to encourage students within that context to build personal relationships with each other and with Jesus Christ, and to disciple young Christians into adults.”

Working on or have obtained a Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited College/University, preferably in a Religion-oriented field of study.
Experience in assisting, developing and directing activities for children and youth.
Demonstrated skills in organization, communication, teaching, discipline, developing and training volunteers, and cooperating with others in the program.

The Coordinator will serve as a member of the Christian Education Committee and the Youth Advisory Committee. In cooperation with these Committees, the Coordinator will:

  • Plan, implement and supervise the Youth Group Program, consisting of regular Youth Group meetings and activities, opportunities for Service and Mission, small groups for Discipleship, trips, and retreats.
  • Recruit, train, and support Youth and Adult Leadership in the Youth Ministry Program.
  • Communicate Youth Ministry activities to Committees, to youth, their families, and the congregation.
  • Plan, implement, and supervise Children's Programming with help from Christian Education Committee.
  • Participate in Sunday Worship, including (but not limited to) delivering a Children’s Sermon.
  • Act as a Christian role model for the young people Mars United Presbyterian Church and its surrounding community.
  • Encourage and coordinate youth participation in worship.
  • Ensure that all children and youth ministries comply with required Child Protection Policies.
  • Attend staff meetings, Session meetings, and Christian Education Committee meetings as needed.
  • Utilize available resources to provide for ongoing education and professional development.

Work Schedule:
The position is part-time.  Compensation will be based on an hourly rate for not more than 20 hours per week. The Coordinator will work Sunday mornings and evenings, and weekends as programs or events require. Some weekday or evening meetings may be required as well.  The Coordinator will also participate in extended youth trips throughout the year. Appropriate compensation will be provided.

The Coordinator reports to the Pastor, who is responsible for on-going supervision and evaluation.
The Coordinator is ultimately accountable to the Session, through the Christian Education Committee, in accordance with the Presbyterian Book of Order.
